Second Generations: Migration Processes and Integration Mechanisms between Foreigners and Italians (1950–2010).
9 November 2010

The overall objective of the research study, funded under the 2008 Call for Scientific Research of the Piedmont Region, is to create a systematic comparison between the large wave of internal migration of the past (mostly from southern Italy) and the recent foreign migrations in Piedmont, in order to shed light on the processes of integration of migrant families and, in particular, of the ‘second generations’. The research project assumes that migration is a long-term process that brings with it many effects not only on the lives of individuals but also on the educational and occupational careers of their children (and grandchildren). The investigation included the collection of data on these effects and tried to identify the social mechanisms that they generate.
