In November 2025, on the initiative of the Centro Studi Emigrazione (CSER) in Rome, a historic institution linked to the Scalabrinian Congregation (founded in 1887 to assist Italian emigrants around the world), a seminar was held on the future of non-academic research on migration in Italy.
The results of that meeting have now been published in the CSER journal, Studi Emigrazione, in the form of a “round table” edited by Lorenzo Prencipe, Matteo Sanfilippo and Carola Perillo, entitled “Migration – The state of research and future prospects”. The nine contributions collected, which outline the profiles of nine research institutes, including FIERI, paint a varied and lively picture, despite the difficulties associated with a limited and increasingly competitive research “market”.
