


Marcello Maneri is Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Milano Bicocca, where he teaches Media and Cultural Sociology. After obtaining a PhD in Sociology at the University of Trento in 1995, he was involved in several national and EU-funded projects on migration, security, and racism. He is or was a member of the Editorial/Scientific Board of Contemporary Sociology, Etnografia e Ricerca Qualitativa, Asylon(s), Cartografie Sociali, Conflitti Globali, Progetto CittàSicure. His research focuses on news and migration, racism, public discourse on crime and security, and moral panics. He has recently published with Ann Morning “The Ugly Word. Rethinking race in Italy and the United States”, on the notions of genealogical groups’ essentialized difference in Italy and the United States.
