NATAC – The acquisition of citizenship in member countries: rules, practices and quantitative developments
19 December 2006

This research project, financed by the European Union and coordinated by the Austrian Academy of Science, mapped out legislation and practices concerning “access” to nationality in EU countries, in order to identify divergences and convergences. FIERI, which participated in the project in the capacity of national expert in the field, took part in the workshops, designed and implemented the tools for use in the research work, processed the data and created a country profile for Italy in the final stage of the work.

Full results of the NATAC project were published in two volumes edited by Rainer Bauböck, Eva Ersbøll, Kees Groenendijk and HaraldWaldrauch (eds.) “Acquisition and Loss of Nationality. Volume 1: Comparative Analyses – Policies and Trends in 15 European Countries” and ” Acquisition and Loss of Nationality. Volume 2: Country Analyses“, Amsterdam University Press, IMISCOE series, 2006.

The results on the Italian case were published in the volume edited by Giovanna Zincone (2006), Familismo legale. Come (non) diventare italiani, Laterza, Rome.
