While migration gains ever more salience on the international agenda, even organisations that had never focused specifically on the topic start doing so. It is the case of UNU-WIDER, the Helsinki-based United Nations World Institute for Development Economics Research that has just organised a major conference on “Migration and mobility – New frontiers for research and policy”. Strongly focused on migration in and from Africa, the conference has brought together over eighty scholars and researchers from Africa and beyond. The rich proceedings (sixty papers and more than twenty posters) reveal a vibrant and expanding transnational and multi-disciplinary field of scholarship and research. FIERI has contributed to this important event with a presentation by Ferruccio Pastore, that has now become a working paper.
